Esta región ha ido paulatinamente creciendo en su demanda turística, famosa por la elaboración del pisco, dulces de papaya y por ser la cuna de la poetiza Gabriela Mistral, Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Cuenta con hermosas playas y centros de arqueología y astronómicos importantes. Sus principales ciudades son Coquimbo y La Serena.
